Side channel blowers, biogas blowers and compressors
The side channel blower and the TBT increase the pressure of the aspirated gas by the creation, in the peripheral toroidal channel, of a series of vortexes caused by the centrifugal thrust of the impeller. While the impeller is rotating, the vanes force the gas forward and, because of the centrifugal thrust, outwards, producing a helical motion. During this motion, the gas is recompressed repeatedly with a consequent linear pressure increase along the length of the channel.
The rotating TBT and toroidal channel are extremely innovative, born form a long research and trial. The impeller’s wing profile vanes and the central core channel allow this machine to achieve performances close to those of rotating lobe positive-displacement blowers.
The LeveL-21® side channel blowers to be used for extraction or compression of combustible gases, such as biological or natural gas, have been designed in order to fall within the Equipment Group II as required by the 2014/34/EU Directive, Category 2 both for the surrounding area conditions and for the internals of the machines.
- casing and impellers made completely of spark proof aluminium alloy;
- casing impregnated with Loctite;
- casing halves sealed;
- shaft sealing by special double-lip seals which do not require lubrication;
- two-pole, type of protection “d”, flameproof electric motors, with specific marking Ex II 2 G, additional marking Ex-d IIB T3.
The simplest solution for the manufacturing of the machines is the so-called “CLOSE COUPLED” version – i.e., a flange mounted electric motor is bolted to the blower casing; the impeller, which is dynamically balanced, is fitted directly onto the motor shaft extension. Furthermore, we can offer machines with their own shaft and bearings and coupled to the electric motors via flexible shaft couplings or belt drives. In these cases, the safety drive guards are made of spark-free material.
The main advantages of using side channel machines are:
- easy installation;
- low noise level;
- no vibration;
- pulsation free gas flow;
- minimal maintenance.
Moreover, no internal lubrication is necessary and therefore the gas moving through the machine remains uncontaminated and completely
oil-free.
Roots blowers
A roots blower pump is a positive displacement rotary lobe pump
that operates by pumping a fluid with a pair of meshing lobes
not unlike a set of stretched gears. Fluid is then trapped in pockets surrounding the lobes and carried from the intake side to the exhaust.
The roots blower’s principle consists of the following: the process
starts with air flowing from the inlet port into the element chamber. The timed rotation of the rotors against the wall of the chamber creates a so-called “air flow direction”. At this point, there is still atmospheric pressure in these chambers.
As soon as the first lobe passes the opening to the pressure side,
the system pressure is adjusted. This is called isochoric compression. The rotors seal each other off to the inside, which prevents a change of pressure.
A Roots blower operates using the isochoric compression principle, also known as external compression. The pressure increase is achieved by intermittently transporting a gaseous medium (e.g. atmospheric air) into a system.
By forcing the medium from atmospheric conditions into a system with a given resistance (e.g. a water column, distribution network), the relevant pressure increase is achieved. The roots blower will operate at a controlled output level to overcome this resistance.
Air bearing turbo blowers
Turbo technology is the suggested method for achieving the highest efficiency in air compression up to 1 bar. Once the first turbo blower had been manufactured in 2001 using a new combination of techniques, spectacular improvements became visible compared to the conventional rotary piston and screw compressors. In addition to a vast reduction in necessary power, the sound pressure and maintenance schedule of the turbo blowers have come as somewhat of a relief. With the optimisation of the techniques used, we have perfected our series of turbo blowers and simplified them into a universal compact turnkey module. In this process, we have engineered ease of use, control, security and communication into an extremely reliable machine.
Based on these unprecedented performances, we have a radial turbo compressor, which, with revolutions of between 20,000 and 50,000 rpm, generates minimal losses. The motor has been designed for optimal electric and magnetic properties.
Due to the high number of revolutions, the relatively small motors are able to supply enormous powers, which makes cooling a challenge. The inventive integrated motor cooling is so effective that this aircooling works without external components up to and including 300 kW. Whilst in operation, the rotor does not make any contact with the fixed parts of the turbo blower thanks to the axial and radial air foil bearings. The complete module contains easyto-exchange filter cartridges, which also forms the only periodic maintenance of this 100% oil-free machine.
Turbo blowers are particularly suitable for processes where longterm air compression between 0.2 and 1.0 bar is required. In addition to energy targets, the total cost of ownership will prove that, economically, turbo blowers are by far the best solution.
Common uses are aeration, the pneumatic transportation of bulk goods, air supply in combustion processes, air film transportation, drying using air knives and oxidation processes. You will be familiar with these processes from industries such as water purification, cement production, thermal power stations, blast furnaces, pharmacy, food products and much more. With turbo blowers, you can benefit from the highest possible output in the industry right away in both existing and new systems.
